Well, today begins CSM's new Code Green project. The idea is that we can save money and be environmentally responsible by closing services during a non-peak time on Friday afternoons. Sounds like a really great idea, but probably we are just scratching the surface of becoming more environmentally-friendly as a college.
So...send in some ideas (click the "comments" link below). Maybe we can do some things to expand on the start we've gotten with the Code Green project!

Sue,
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last time surveys were conducted to determine the time of the day students wanted to attend, and which types of students (4-year, 2-year, etc.) preferred specific time slots? How often are these surveys conducted? Does this information vary by campus?
I would think that updated information on those projections would help determine when and where our energy usage is expected to be the greatest, so that we could make a determination if classes (for example) should be shifted to non-peak-usage times. For example, if most university-bound students preferred morning and mid-day classes, and they made up 30 % of the enrollment, then we could shift the classes for those programs to those time slots to accommodate them - and free up the time and space currently utilized in the evening for those to offer other classes or services - or simply tax the a/c system and the parking lots a little less!

We should start a community garden, to involve students in learning how to be more self sufficient and grow their own produce.
ReplyDeleteI think a green club would also be great.
